News: Open Standard, Low-Cost SMARC-based SBC near USD $100

Published: Saturday 08 September, 2018

Embedian today introduces a new breed of SBCs: the SMARC-based SBC. This hybrid approach combines a SMARC COM for the CPU engine with a baseboard for the I/O and application interface. This two-board solution provides a multitude of valuable benefits to the user: instant access to a wide range of interchangeable CPU modules, protection from processor technology obsolescence and scalability of product performance.

The first SMARC-based SBC to reach the market is SBC-SMART-BEE, a high performance, low power and low cost single board computer based on TI's Sitara AM335X (ARM Cortex-A8) 600MHz, 800MHz or 1GHz processor.

"This low cost board is suitable for low power, high performance embedded computing requirements and ideal solution for advance HMI, Industry control and automation, remote monitoring and panel PC applications. Also any customization of the board can be quickly done by Embedian with minimal NRE charges in very short time" said Norris, Associate Director of Embedian.

This board can also be an alternative of Beaglebone Black with slightly higher cost, but rich I/O and interfaces. The baseboard designer can also leverage the open SMARC modules available in the market.

The features of SBC-SMART-BEE are:

  • TI Sitara AM335X @600MHz, 800MHz or 1GHz

  • 512MB DDR3

  • 4GB eMMC Flash

  • TTL and LVDS LCD

  • SDHC/SDIO

  • 10/100Mbps Ethernet x 2

  • COM x 3, USB 2.0 x 2

  • CANbus, 2 x I2C, 2 x SPI, Stereo Audio, 12 x GPIO

  • Typical 2W
